ENTRY 01 / BOX TRUCK DISPATCH

Box truck dispatch for 26 ft trucks run as a real business

Our box truck dispatch is built for owners of 26 ft box trucks, CDL or non-CDL, running under their own MC. We book partials, final-mile, retail and expedited loads to a floor rate built from your costs, confirm the liftgate, dock and appointment details before the load reaches you, and send every rate con to you to sign or refuse.

ENTRY 02 / IS YOUR TRUCK A FIT?

Who our box truck dispatch service is for

We dispatch box trucks with a 26 ft box or longer. Not 24 ft, not 20, not 16, and never cargo vans or sprinters. That isn't a judgment on smaller trucks; it is about the freight. Most box truck loads we book are posted for a 26 ft box, often with a liftgate, and a shorter truck would sit more than it runs on our desk.

A 26 ft box usually fits about 12 standard 48 by 40 inch pallets on the floor, depending on its inside length and how the pallets are turned. That is the size many retail, final-mile and partial loads are built around.

  • Box length. 26 ft or longer. Shorter trucks: our calculators are free, but we can't dispatch them.
  • Authority. Your own MC and USDOT number, active or in progress.
  • CDL or non-CDL. Both. We set up the right freight and paperwork for each.
  • Liftgate. Not required, but it opens many more delivery types.
  • Insurance. Auto liability and cargo coverage at limits brokers accept.

Every number starts as an EXAMPLE. Put in your own days, daily gross, fuel and costs, and see the week as a settlement with our fee as one line. Toggle the liftgate to see why it matters for the loads you can take.

A liftgate opens deliveries to places without a dock: many final-mile, retail and residential stops. Fewer competitors can take those loads.

Weekly profit before income tax

About $1,742 a week left after fuel, payment, insurance, repairs and a 5% dispatch fee, on 1,500 miles.

ENTRY 04 / FREIGHT WE BOOK

Box truck loads our dispatchers book

LTL and partials

A few pallets for one or several receivers. Short hauls, more stops, and the most volume for 26 ft trucks.

Final mile

Store, jobsite or home deliveries. A liftgate and a pallet jack open most of this work.

Retail replenishment

DC to store runs on regular schedules. Good for owners who want steady regional days.

Expedited

Time-sensitive freight that can't wait for a full truckload. Pays for speed, often with tight pickup windows.

Appliance and furniture

Frequently residential, sometimes inside delivery. Check what the rate con expects before you sign.

Trade show and event freight

Set dates, set venues, careful handling. Plan the empty trip home.

Box truck freight is mostly regional and local, so the money is made on days, not miles. A good box truck week stacks two or three loads a day in the same area instead of chasing one long load and driving back empty. We plan the day around that.

ENTRY 05 / CDL OR NON-CDL

Non-CDL box truck dispatch, and when you need a CDL

Under federal rules, a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 lb or more needs a commercial driver's license to drive. Many 26 ft box trucks are rated at 26,000 lb or less on purpose, so they can be driven without a CDL. Check the GVWR on your truck's door label, not the weight of what you haul.

SOURCE: 49 CFR 383.5, DEFINITION OF COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE, OCT 2026

Non-CDL still needs authority. Hauling for-hire freight across state lines still needs your own USDOT number, MC authority, a process agent filing and insurance on file, whether or not the driver has a CDL.

Drug testing. DOT drug and alcohol testing rules apply to drivers who need a CDL. A non-CDL box truck driver is outside those rules; a CDL box truck driver with their own authority needs a testing program.

Weight on the load. A non-CDL truck has less payload room. We check the weight on every rate con against what your truck can legally carry before you sign.

ENTRY 06 / READ BEFORE YOU SIGN

What we confirm on every box truck rate con

Box truck loads go wrong in the details: a delivery with no dock and no liftgate, a hand unload nobody mentioned, a residential street the truck can't get down. A box truck dispatcher earns the fee by getting those answers before you are committed.

  • Liftgate. Whether one is required at pickup, delivery or both.
  • Pallet jack. Whether you need one on the truck.
  • Dock or no dock. And whether the delivery is residential or on a narrow street.
  • Hand unload. Any loose freight you are expected to unload yourself, and whether it is paid.
  • Appointments. Windows for every stop, with the order of stops on multi-drop loads.
  • Weight and pieces. So you know the load fits your payload and your box.
  • Detention and TONU. Pay for waiting and for cancelled loads.

Why box truck owners hire a box truck dispatcher

  • Many small loads, many calls

Two or three loads a day means two or three rounds of searching, calling and paperwork. That is most of a work day on its own.

  • Cheap freight competes hard

Box truck postings attract many small carriers. Finding the loads that clear your floor takes time and a willingness to counter.

  • Surprises at delivery

No dock, no liftgate, a hand unload: details missing from the posting cost hours.

  • New MC, thin broker list

Many box truck owners are new carriers. Getting approved with brokers that book new MCs is the first job.

ENTRY 07 / FEE AND QUESTIONS

The fee, and box truck dispatcher questions

A 26 ft box truck pays the same tier as a tractor-trailer: 5% of gross with one truck and an MC past six months, 7% while the MC is newer, 4% for two or more trucks. On an EXAMPLE $3,750 box truck week that is $187.50 at the standard rate. Brand new carrier? See dispatch for new authorities. All terms are on the dispatch pricing page.

Q01How much does box truck dispatch cost?

The same as every truck we dispatch: 5% of the gross on loads you haul with one truck and an MC older than 6 months, 7% while the MC is newer, and 4% for two or more trucks. No setup fee, no monthly minimum, month to month with 30 days notice.

Q02Can you dispatch a non-CDL 26 ft box truck?

Yes. Many 26 ft box trucks have a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,000 lb or less, which keeps them under the CDL threshold. You still need your own USDOT number and MC authority to haul for-hire across state lines, plus insurance brokers will accept. Non-CDL trucks are outside DOT drug testing rules.

Q03Is a box truck business profitable?

It can be, when the truck runs enough days at a rate that covers its costs. Box trucks earn less per load than a tractor-trailer but cost less to buy, insure and fuel. Run your own numbers in the 26-foot week gauge on this page or the box truck business profit calculator.

Q04Do you work with new MC box trucks?

Yes. New authorities pay 7% until month 7, then 5%. Box truck freight includes many shorter, local loads, which helps new carriers build a record quickly. Some brokers still want time in business, so we start with the ones that book new MCs.

Q05Will you force me to take loads?

No. Every load comes to you as a rate con in your company's name, and you sign it or say no. We never sign for you, and there is no fee on a load you decline. If a residential delivery or a hand unload isn't for you, that is a fine reason to pass.

Q06Do you dispatch 16, 20 or 24 ft box trucks?

No, only 26 ft and longer. Most of the box truck freight we book is posted for a 26 ft box, often with a liftgate, and a shorter box fits too few of those loads for us to keep it busy. We would rather tell you that up front than take your fee for a truck that sits.
